This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
Key Takeaways
- Sophie Turner is reportedly in talks to play Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider TV show.
- According to a report from Deadline, Amazon has decided to enter talks with Turner after initial screenings.
- Nothing has been signed just yet, though it looks as though Amazon’s long hunt for a Lara Croft is coming to an end.
Amazon has plenty of video game adaptations in the works at the minute, including the likes of God of War, Fallout, and most recently, Mass Effect. There’s also a new Tomb Raider TV show currently in production too, with Fleabag writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge set to both write and executive produce. It’s still early days though, as the show hadn’t even found its Lara Croft when it was announced.
Tomb Raider TV Show Reportedly In Talks To Cast Sophie Turner As Lara Croft
That hunt appears to have come to an end though, as after a round of screenings, Amazon appears to have gone with Game of Thrones actor Sophie Turner for the role. This is according to Deadline, which has reported that Turner has been chosen over other actors gunning for the role, which included the likes of Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), Emma Corrin (The Crown), and Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049).
While this will be exciting news for anyone with their fingers crossed that Turner would come out victorious, it’s worth noting that nothing has been confirmed just yet. Deadline has reported that Turner is currently in negotiations with Amazon over the role right now, and that the two are yet to reach an agreement. Amazon itself also declined to comment on the report, though that is fairly expected.
If she actually signs her name on the dotted line, then Turner will join the likes of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as actors that have played Lara Croft on the silver screen, though Amazon will be hoping that the show is more well received than the projects those actors were involved in. After the success of the Fallout TV show, though, we know that Amazon is capable of overseeing some fantastic video game adaptations.
We just actually have to wait for more information on the show as a whole. Despite being public knowledge for almost two years, we’ve had very little in the way of confirmed details, and the fact that Amazon still doesn’t have its Lara Croft locked down means it’s probably nowhere close to releasing. Thankfully, we’ve had a Tomb Raider anime to tide us over, which has been fairly well received by fans of the show. Let’s just ignore the ones that think she’s too manly though, eh?
